    ORGANIZATION

    What is the IBE?
The IBE's main mission is to act as UNESCO's centre specialized in contents, methods and structure of education. It builds networks to share expertise on curriculum development in all regions of the world and aims to introduce modern approaches in curriculum design and implementation, improve practical skills and promote informed dialogue at regional and international levels.

What is the link between the IBE and UNESCO?
The IBE is a UNESCO Institute. As an integral part of UNESCO, the Institutes are specialized in such key education areas as curriculum development, educational planning and reform, capacity building.

Being an Institute has advantages that make it possible for the IBE to carry out its missions effectively: for instance the Bureau is relatively small (which means less bureaucracy) and autonomous (hence more flexible to respond to needs), yet international in character and experienced in networking and partnerships. The IBE can deliver assistance that is tailor made for specific situations, such as rebuilding education systems in post-conflict regions or promoting HIV/AIDS prevention through education. The IBE can act alone or with other agencies (within or outside the United Nations system). Furthermore, the IBE has its own statutes and governing boards, and manages its personnel and budget.
