Formation of an energetic culture of respect for the environment (solar energy)

Cuba, Covering all regions of the country

CUBASOLAR is the Cuban society for the Promotion of renewable forms of energy and the respect for the environment. Its main task is that of contributing to the creation of an energetic conscience. Thus, CUBASOLAR 's main role is that of promoting, at a school level, the use of renewable forms of energy, the protection of the environment and the saving of energy, in order to contribute to the country's sustainable development.

In conjunction with many other Cuban institutions, CUBASOLAR has participated in the great job of photovoltaic plant electrification of rural schools. This system, working on solar energy, creates conscience on the part of the students toward the use of that kind of energy. Besides, they also learn how to take care of the system's devices. CUBASOL also focuses its attention on the popular, technical and scientific spreading. Thus, Cuban youths have access to books and magazines covering the subject, and, in some cases, their relation to the citizen's role in the Cuban society.

The work of CUBASOLAR is supported by regional representatives of the community as a whole, which learns about the subject, promoting its spreading among classmates and neighbors. Besides this, CUBASOLAR produces magazines (9 issues of the "Tú" magazine) and books ("Energy and Democracy, Economy and Quality of Life", "The way toward the Solar Age").

The Cuban government is convinced that the people's, and particularly youths' self-awareness of the renewable forms of energy and the respect of the environment may solve many social problems and help the sustained development of Cuba.
