WELCOME

Netforum 2004 is the electronic platform of exchange for the 47th session of the International Conference on Education (Geneva, 8-11 September 2004) on:

Quality Education for all Young People:
Challenges, Trends and Priorities

Discussion Forum 1 (26 April - 31 May 2004): We would like to thank the participants who contributed to the first discussion devoted to the themes of the four workshops to be organised at the upcoming conference.

Discussion Forum 2 (OPEN until 30 July 2004):

This second discussion is based on the main reference document for the conference. The objective of the discussion forum is to share ideas and reactions concerning the proposals contained in this document.

Here are the questions that serve as a starting point for the discussion:

Are traditional forms of secondary education inherited from the historical European model capable of ensuring quality education for all young people?

  1. What priority strategies may be implemented to guarantee quality education for all young people?

  2. Are there any promising alternatives to the current conventional organization of education systems?

  3. While the need to reform teaching/learning content and methods may not be in question, is it not difficult to undertake such reform when there is insufficient articulation between social change, and the objectives, contents, methods and structures of education proposed?

  4. Should the state continue to be involved in both the regulation, as well as the delivery of educational services?

  5. How can the conditions and methodologies for a virtuous circle of dialogue and action be created among all stakeholders involved in the education of adolescents and youth? How can these partnerships be adequately managed?

  6. What mechanisms for efficient international cooperation in education need to be promoted, developed, or imagined?

We would like to remind you that the complete text of the main reference document containing these questions is available here.
