University Partnership
Jointly with the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), in particular with Mr. Ferran Ferrer, researcher, we are currently implementing a project entitled “Observatory of Equity in Basic Education in Ibero-America”.
Objectives:
- Analyze and understand the educational inequality in basic education in Ibero-America through the elaboration of indicators that can be followed in at least a three-year period as a first project stage;
- Contribute to design policy proposals based on the concept of equity as the vector of the educational system regarding the macro and the micro curriculum levels;
- Disseminate and promote the debate on educational inequality among key stakeholders (teachers, principals, supervisors and parents) through their different organizations and the schools and
- Promote the sharing of good practices on equity issues, highlighting significant aspects that can be taken into account in different contexts.

Outcomes:
- An Ibero-American comparative study of eight countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay) on the explicative factors around learning outcomes disparities (in Math and Mother Tongue) based on PISA outcomes (2000 and 2003). It takes into account family, curricular and school variables as explicative factors of the outcomes.
- A paper entitled “The Educational Disparities in Eight Ibero-American Countries. Analysis Based on PISA Project and Other Indicators of the Education System” will be published as an IBE online Working Paper on Curriculum.
- A proposal to carry out online and face-to-face activities in order to analyze and interpret the disparities in terms of outcomes and their implications for revising the curriculum among policy-makers, curriculum specialists, developers and researchers.
