Partnerships
In May 2003, the IBE signed a Memorandum of Co-operation with the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Technische Zusammenarbeit (German Technical Co-operation-GTZ). GTZ, a government owned corporation is engaged in the field of international development cooperation worldwide, with its primary goal being to improve the living and working conditions of people in partner countries and sustain the natural basis for life. GTZ’s Education Section concentrates its work on development and promotion of techniques and methods to improve the quality, efficiency and relevance of basic education systems worldwide.
The IBE and the GTZ will share their resources and expertise in a collaborative enterprise to document and disseminate educational projects at primary and secondary levels which aim to foster the principles of “learning to live together” through classroom practice, teacher education, and school management and organization. The project will set standards and define criteria for the selection and assessment of good educational practice, using the IBE’s RelatED databank to document exemplary practices from around the world. This joint effort will contribute to building a knowledge base and fostering debate at national and international levels in this vital area of educational provision.
The collaboration also foresees the organization of an experts seminar in December 2003 in which issues pertaining to assessment and evaluation of educational initiatives in learning to live together will be examined and an evaluative tool elaborated for the identification of key qualitative indicators of positive impact on attitudes and behaviours through this dimension of education.
