World Day Against Child Labour: Give Girls a Chance
(11-06-09)The World Day Against Child Labour will be celebrated the 12th of June, 2009. The International Labour Organization launched this day in 2002 to mobilize worldwide action against child labour.
The theme of this year’s celebration will be “Give Girls a Chance,” with a focus on the exploitation of girls in child labour. There are an estimated 100 million girls involved in child labour today. These girls often face more hardships and risks than boys and are often exposed to the worst kinds of child labour.
Director-General of UNESCO, Mr Koïchiro Matsuura provided a message for the occasion.
