University Partnerships
The COP establishes partnerships with universities to promote and carry out research on inequalities and outcome disparities in education and their curricular implications, focusing on Latin-America. Partner universities include (among others): the Autonomous University of Barcelona (Spain), the Catholic University of Uruguay, the University of the Enterprise (Uruguay), the University of San Andres (Argentina), and the University Cayetano Heredia (Peru).
In collaboration with partner universities, the COP aims to:
- Analyse and understand the educational inequality in basic education in Latin-America through the development of indicators that can be followed in at least a three-year period as a first project stage;
- Contribute to the design of policy proposals based on the concept of equity as the vector of the educational system regarding the macro and the micro curriculum levels;
- Disseminate and promote inclusive education among key stakeholders (teachers, principals, supervisors and parents) through their different organisations and the schools;
- Promote the sharing of good practices on equity and quality issues, highlighting significant aspects that can be taken into account in different contexts.
The following are some outcomes of university partnerships:
- A Latin-American comparative study of eight countries (Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, Peru, Portugal, Spain and Uruguay) on the factors causing learning outcomes disparities (in Math and Mother Tongue) based on PISA outcomes (2000 and 2003). The study takes into account family, curricular and school variables as explicative factors of the outcomes.
- A paper entitled “The Educational Disparities in Eight Ibero-American Countries. Analysis Based on PISA Project and Other Indicators of the Education System” will be published as an IBE online Working Paper on Curriculum.
- A proposal to carry out online and face-to-face activities in order to analyse and interpret the disparities in terms of outcomes and their implications for revising the curriculum among policy-makers, curriculum specialists, developers and researchers.
- A proposal to implement workshops and research lines on inclusive education from an inter-regional perspective, within the universities’ master and doctoral education programmes.
