The IBE hosted from 12 to 16 September 2005 a study visit for two teams of decision makers and curriculum specialists from Iraq and Jordan. The study visit was organized jointly by the IBE and the UNESCO offices for Jordan and Iraq in Amman at the request of the Jordanian and Iraqi Ministries of Education.

The program included interactive presentations, group activities, individual study and visits to Swiss schools and teacher training institutes with the aim to facilitate comprehensive exchanges on issues such as international trends in modern curriculum and textbook development, teacher training and evaluation of learning outcomes. The integration into the curriculum of new areas, such as ICT and citizenship and human rights education was also tackled. The participants and the IBE staff and consultants worked on identifying the most relevant topics and approaches that would have to be considered in the context of the ongoing education reforms in the two countries.

It is envisaged to jointly plan for several follow up activities as to capitalize on this first successful capacity building and experience sharing endeavor and cater for a proper dissemination of its outcomes.
