This issue contains articles that focus on the complexity of the current educational landscape, with important topics ranging from the Education for All (EFA) initiative and international assessments, to education reforms and their effects on students’ and teachers’ work. The authors provide substantive contributions to current scholarly debates as well as to educational policy issues like: EFA as a political strategy; the complexity of changes in higher education in countries such as China, India and the Russian Federation; the results of international surveys in mathematics that took place in 2003; and several teacher education reforms in the Asia-Pacific region.
