On 19 August 2013 in Montevideo, Uruguay, IBE will launch its Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development in Latin America. This course is jointly organized by IBE, the Catholic University of Uruguay (UCU) and the UNESCO Regional Bureau for Education in Latin America and the Caribbean (UNESCO/OREALC).

This fourth consecutive diploma introduces several new features: First, this 2013-14 cohort is expected to include fourteen participants from Haiti, at the request of the country’s government and in coordination with UNESCO Port-au Prince. The training of the Haitian participants is a promising long-term initiative to support the comprehensive curriculum intervention as a way to improve the quality of teaching, in the aftermath of the devastating earthquake that hit Haiti in 2010.

Second, the course will include two specializations: (a) compulsory education (from childhood to secondary education) and (b) higher education and teacher education (teacher training institutes and universities).

Finally, this year marks the first use of the updated 2013 edition of IBE’s “Training Tools for Curriculum Development: A Resource Pack" in print and digital format, among other updated materials selected for the region.
