Doha, Qatar, 11-15 November 2012

The first phase of the “Developing new Iraqi Curricula” project focused on the role of the curriculum framework in setting the grounds for comprehensive curriculum revision and for orientating education stakeholders on the content, processes and expected outcomes of implementing revised primary and secondary curricula in Iraq.

The current and second phase of the project mainly aims at developing Iraqi capacities for translating the Curriculum Framework into syllabuses, and the syllabuses into textbooks. Building on previous workshops (the ministerial and technical workshops held in Geneva in December 2011), this training provides support to national curriculum specialists to develop guidelines for the drafting of math, science, chemistry, physics and biology syllabuses and set up common language, knowledge and competencies for subsequent workshops.

It will set the grounds for the process required to produce the new syllabuses and mobilize the necessary human resources. This technical workshop is organized by UNESCO Iraq Office with the coordination of UNESCO Doha Office, the Office of Her Highness Sheikha Moza bint Nasser (HHO) and the technical assistance of UNESCO IBE. Around 25 Iraqi curriculum specialists will be gathered along with of Qatari Ministry of Education officials and international technical experts to benefit from this capacity development activity.
