Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, 16-19 December 2008 Initiated by the Kigali Call for Action, the UNESCO Basic Education Programme in Africa (BEAP) was established to support the extension of basic education in partner countries from early childhood education to the end of junior secondary education. After The Gambia and Ethiopia, countries of the initial phase of the BEAP, Côte d'Ivoire is the next country, at its request, to benefit from this collaboration. The objectives of the Conference are to:

  2. Get the commitment of all stakeholders in the successful expansion and democratisation of basic education in Côte d'Ivoire
  3. Discuss the difficulties and identify key challenges, including those related to financial aspects, in implementing the policies formulated in the different education plans of the country, in the light of BEAP
  4. Consult with all stakeholders to share their concerns and describe their needs and priorities
  5. Inform all stakeholders in Côte d'Ivoire of how UNESCO and other international partners can assist the country in filling the gaps preventing a proper implementation of the expansion and democratisation of basic education in Côte d'Ivoire
