The challenges of Basic Education in the Andean countries and the Education for All

Lima, Peru - 26 to 27 June 2006 This regional seminar is the start-up activity of the Community of Practice (COP) in the Andean region of South America. The seminar’s goals are to share the vision of the COP and its significance so as to foster a comprehensive approach towards curriculum that encompasses processes and results as well as contribute to a comparative country analysis on the concept, scope and content of Basic Education in the Andean region. It has been jointly organized by the Faculty of Education of the Peruvian University Cayetano Heredia and the International Bureau of Education (IBE/UNESCO). The seminar will be an occasion to further discuss policy options on curriculum development and improve Basic Education in Latin America within the Education for All (EFA) goals. The curricular experiences of 5 countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Venezuela) will be discussed. Authorities from the Ministry of Education of Peru, UNESCO Regional Office (OREALC, Santiago de Chile) and the Office in Peru, the Organization of Iberoamerican States (OEI), GRADE-PREAL and the Andean Community of Nations (CAN) are supporting and attending the seminar.
