Competencies for life and work in sub-Saharan Africa: Strengthening quality curricula

Bamako, Mali, 22-24 August 2011 This international workshop is organized within the framework of a project initiated in October 2008 with the aim of developing a toolkit for strengthening the capacities of policy makers, curriculum specialists and teachers, in order to support them in the design and analysis of curriculum documents, the evaluation of curricula and the training teacher trainers. The workshop’s objective is to validate the English and French versions of the toolkit “Skills for living and working in the 21st century: a toolkit for curricular innovations in Africa.” It will also allow participants to review and discuss the contents of the toolkit with a view to its application in concrete situations, particularly in the context of three projects dealing with: the integration of cross-cutting issues in the curriculum (Burkina Faso), the analysis of teachers training needs (Kenya), and the development of a guide for curriculum implementation (Mali). The workshop will bring together about thirty participants from six countries in Sub-Saharan Africa (Burkina Faso, Congo-Brazzaville, Kenya, Mali, Mauritius and Mozambique), as well as experts from UNESCO, the International Bureau of Education (UNESCO-BIE), the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), the German Technical Cooperation for Development (GIZ) and the Malian National Commission for UNESCO. This meeting is organized by UNESCO-IBE in collaboration with the UNESCO Cluster Office in Bamako and the Ministry of Education, Literacy and National Languages of Mali. Documents:
