Crisis-sensitive planning and curricula: a capacity development programme

25.03.2014

Details

Geneva, Switzerland, 26 to 28 March 2014 The rising concern to promote and protect the right to education in times of conflict and crisis among the international development community has led the Protect Education from Insecurity and Conflict Programme (PEIC) of the Education Above All Foundation (EAA) to launch a project on Crisis-sensitive planning and curricula: a capacity development programme. The project started in October 2013 in partnership with the UNESCO International Institute for Education Planning (IIEP) and the International Bureau of Education (IBE). The project builds on the momentum of many agencies and provides a space for dialogue and reflection on methodology, needs and challenges in integrating conflict and disaster risk reduction (C/DRR) into sector policies, plans and curriculum development processes. The IBE was pleased to host a technical meeting of this project in Geneva on from 26 to 28 March 2014. The meeting has gathered development partners working in the field of education and C/DRR. In the meeting, participants:

  • presented findings of a scoping study
  • provided input on thematic areas for a proposed resource kit
  • engaged in a discussion of the programme's approach and refined it in light of partners' needs
  • identified opportunities for collaboration and going forward
