IBE-UNESCO to support Lao PDR in the development of the national ECCE system and in the implementation of a new curriculum on General Education

The activity of IBE-UNESCO in the development of holistic Early Childhood Care and Education system is spreading in different Region of the world. After Seychelles, Eswatini, Cameroon, a new Country, Lao PDR, joined the club of Countries committed to make a difference in the provision of Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE). A mission held in June 2019 represented the kick-off of the analysis of the legislation and of the implementation of ECCE initiatives in the Country.
 
A similar action has been developed in the area of General Education, based on the GEQAF (General Education Quality Analysis Framework). After analysing the educational system of the Country, Prof. Eric Hamilton worked with the senior staff of the Ministry of Education and Sport to focus.
 
The work on the two areas of interest has been developed in a first workshop in Vientiane, the 10th of June, whereby both the Steering Committee and the two core teams participated. The two core teams worked with the IBE experts in a further, thematic workshop in Thalat, the 11th and the 12th, supported by the UNESCO NatCom.
 
The Minister of Education and Sport, H.E. Mrs Sengdeuane Lachanthaboune expressed appreciation for the work of IBE-UNESCO and assured her interest and support in the actions planned during the mission. In order to support the development of both National ECCE system and General Education reform, the Country proficiently set up a Steering Committee in charge of the guidance of the whole process, and two core teams, one for General Education and one for ECCE.
 
In order to provide the necessary political capital to the project, and especially to the construction of a National Holistic ECCE system, an Inter-Ministerial meeting is set for September 2019, chaired by the Minister of Education and Sport, at the presence of the Director of IBE-UNESCO, Dr. Mmantsetsa Marope.
