The first Postgraduate Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development to take place in Africa will begin on 17 October 2011, in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. This initiative is being jointly implemented by UNESCO (IBE, BREDA, Teacher Policy & Development (TED) Section), the Tanzania Institute of Education (TIE) and the Open University of Tanzania (OUT).

Continuing the success of the equivalent Diploma in Latin America (Uruguay), this Postgraduate Diploma course aims at enhancing the capacities of participants for the analysis, design, development, review, implementation and evaluation of the curriculum at different levels of the education system.

The Diploma in Curriculum Design and Development targets policymakers, curriculum specialists, international civil servants, teachers, professors, educators and researchers. Participants will attend an intensive face-to-face session from 17 to 28 October 2011, followed by online activities within a timeframe of 30 weeks.

The Diploma is based on the UNESCO-IBE’s "Training Tools for Curriculum Development: A Resource Pack" (TTCD), as well as additional resources tailored to the region, including an anthology reader of curriculum-related articles and handouts on curricular debates, policy dialogue and education reforms, inclusive education, the role of teachers and the role of assessment.
