Details

Originating from the Kigali Call for Action, the UNESCO Basic Education Programme in Africa (BEAP) was established to develop partner countries’ capacity to expand and reform basic education, for an uninterrupted duration of a minimum of 9 years. The IBE is playing an active role in supporting BEAP, as the Programme focuses on enhanced equity and the quality of basic education.   After the Gambia, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire and Tanzania, countries of the initial phase of BEAP, Seychelles is the next country which, according to its request, will benefit from this collaboration.   The Conference in the Seychelles (1-4 September 2009) will bring together key stakeholders of education in the country. Its objectives are to: 1.    Inform and solicit the commitment of all education stakeholders in the BEAP programmes; 2.    Explore the concepts, principles and processes of inclusive education from international experiences and to the participants’ own varied contexts; 3.    Investigate possible policy frameworks, relevant to the participants’ own varied contexts, that would guide the development and implementation of inclusive education, and 4.    Consider the application of the proposed policy frameworks within the country-specific contexts. This meeting will gather representatives from Kenya, Mauritius, Seychelles, Uganda, Tanzania, Zambia, IBE, UNESCO Dar Es Salaam, as well as other partners.   For more information:
