
Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso, 1-2 March 2010 Originating from the Kigali Call for Action, the UNESCO Basic Education Programme in Africa (BEAP) was established to develop partner countries’ capacity to expand and reform basic education, for an uninterrupted duration of a minimum of 9 years. The IBE is playing an active role in supporting BEAP, as the Programme focuses on enhanced equity and the quality of basic education. After the Gambia, Ethiopia, Côte d'Ivoire, Tanzania, the Seychelles and Djibouti, the West African Economic and Monetary Union (WAEMU) countries, namely Benin, Burkina Faso, Côte d'Ivoire, Guinea Bissau, Mali, Niger, Senegal and Togo, are meeting to discuss the relevance of the BEAP for their region and possible ways to incorporate the Programme. This consultative seminar among WAEMU countries has the following objectives:
This meeting will gather representatives from the basic education sector, those responsible for curriculum and teacher training, resource persons specialized in the fields of quality of education and educational systems and academic learning assessment, as well as technical and financial partners and elected locals.
