Regional Preparatory Conference: Africa

Yaoundé, Cameroon - 17 to 18 September 2008 Preparatory Conference of the African region for the 48th session of the International Conference on Education (25-28 November 2008, Geneva). This Conference, entitled “Inclusive Education: Major Issues and Priorities in Africa”, will have for objective to reach a common and shared vision of Africa with regards to inclusive education. This vision should take into account the needs and the specificities of Africa by:

• discussing and analyzing the theme of inclusive education;
• defining the obstacles and principal themes for the region of Africa;
• providing elements of reflection to the preparatory work for the 48th session of the International Conference on Education.

Four themes will be discussed during the conference:

1. Multisectoral public policies, increasing and democratizing basic education within the framework of EFA
2. Inclusive Education and its implications for curriculum development
3. Teacher and student inclusion through the information and communication technologies (ICT) environment
4. Inclusive Education: from theory to practice

This conference, jointly organized by the Ministry of basic education of Cameroon and the UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education (IBE), will take place over two days and include keynote speeches, regional and international expert presentations, and debriefing of parallel discussions with representatives from the Ministries of Education of the African Region on Inclusive Education. Participants from some 15 African countries are expected to attend.  For more information:
