Bern, Switzerland - 3 February 2010 This event will allow a thorough discussion with many experts from North and South based institutions such as universities, NGOs and international organizations. The workshop aims to strengthen Switzerland's contribution to reducing inequalities and the empowerment of vulnerable groups. The event is organized by UNESCO’s International Bureau of Education and the Swiss Network for Education and International Cooperation, with support from Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC), in collaboration with the Global Monitoring Report team. The 2010 EFA Global Monitoring Report argues that the current financial crisis could create a lost generation of children whose chances in life will have been irreparably damaged by a failure to protect their right to education. The Report examines who these children are and why they are being left behind, and shows that the cost of providing Education for All is much higher than previously estimated.
