The Ministry of Education of Bahrain implemented a three-day workshop to integrate Citizenship and Human Rights Education in the curriculum in a crucial historical moment for the country. Participants discussed the improvement of a first Outline of the Directive framework for citizenship and human rights education in the Kingdom of Bahrain, which has been elaborated by the Ministry of Education within the context of Bahrain’s Vision 2030. The IBE contributed to this workshop by providing technical advice, in particular by presenting issues and challenges in curriculum development and in citizenship and human rights education from an international comparative perspective. It also supported discussions and workgroup activities on inclusive education and inclusive curricula. In opening the workshop, the Minister of Education, H.E. Dr. Majid Ali Al Noaimi  acknowledged the “support that the Ministry of Education has been receiving from the International Bureau of Education of UNESCO with its great experience in the field of inclusive education”. The workshop gathered staff from different ministerial divisions and directorates, as well as from the University of Bahrain. Participants actively exchanged and discussed in groups a wide range of complex issues such as  school-level procedures to comply with the principles of human rights education, the training of school leaders on citizenship and human rights education, the creation of a school club for citizenship and human rights education, the generation of learning-friendly environments, promoting teachers’ exchanges to support their engagement as curriculum co-developers, promoting students’ councils to strengthen the interaction with the school environment, and strengthening parents’ councils.
