Born in 1952 and passed away on 1 June 2005, Mrs Braslavsky held a Diploma in Educational Sciences from the Faculty of Philosophy and Literature, University of Buenos Aires, and a Ph.D. from the University of Leipzig, Germany. She subsequently became an ordinary professor at the University of Buenos Aires, and took part in academic activities in many countries on different continents. In particular, Mrs Braslavsky was involved in curriculum development and capacity building activities in Africa and Latin America.

From 1984 to 1992, Mrs Braslavsky was Educational Coordinator of the Latin American Social Sciences Faculty (FLACSO). She was subsequently appointed in 1993 as Coordinator of the Argentine Basic Contents Programme, the new curriculum framework for the whole education system. In 1994, she became Director-General of Educational Research in the Argentine Ministry of Education.

Mrs Braslavsky received scholarships and grants for research and technical assistance programmes from various foundations, among which IDRC, Ford Foundation, Volkswagen Foundation and Antorchas. She was a member of numerous national and international professional institutions and associations and has undertaken many research activities in the field of education. Mrs Braslavsky published a number of books, compilations, articles and essays in her field of competence. Her book is Rehaciendo escuelas: hacia un nuevo paradigma en la educación latino-americana (Santillana, 1999), received the Andrès Bello Award for Latin American Thought as the best essay on education.
