Nobody can remain indifferent to the upsurge of xenophobia and violence in the world.
Overcoming prejudice, combatting stereotypes and obstructing the emergence of intolerance are not going to be easy tasks; they are, however, areas for educational action. Influencing the attitudes of teachers facing classes of pupils drawn from diverse cultures represents one line of action at the national and international levels.
This book presents a selection of studies from the IBE's project 'Basic Education for Participation and Democracy: Key Issues in Human Resources Development (Teachers and Multicultural/Intercultural Education)'. It discussions between those concerned with education as an instrument to promote understanding, respect and dialogue between cultures.
