Developing the new Iraqi curricula
Within the framework of this three-year project (2010-2013), the technical assistance of the IBE aims at supporting the enhancement of capacities of Iraqi specialists and the process of developing the new Iraqi Curriculum Framework. This project is part of an educational reform and development strategy aiming at enhancing quality and equity within the Iraq education system and therefore contributing to modernization and reconciliation in Iraq society.
Objectives
The project is expected to address the following main issues:
- assessing the current situation of the Iraqi curriculum and identifying needs and priorities for change/improvement;
- developing national awareness of the need of, and directions for improving the curriculum;
- developing capacities of policy makers and curriculum specialists to revise the curriculum and implement it in pilot schools;
- supporting the process of designing a Curriculum Framework.
Implementation
For 2011, the main goal of the planned activities is to finalize the Curriculum Framework.
Doha training workshop (December 2010)
This first training workshop which is part of the project “Developing new Iraqi Curricula” contributed to the clarification of the main goals, aims and principles that should underline the revision of the curriculum in Iraq for both primary and secondary education.

Launching workshop (Doha, October 2010)
The Doha workshop launched the new project “Developing New Iraqi Curricula”, which is part of an overall Iraqi educational reform and development strategy. It constituted an opportunity for operational planning by specifying the project objectives, activities, and expected outcomes for each of the four years of the projects’ life span.
