IBE Council applauds the Director and her team for excellence during 2016 and an ambitious 2017 program of work

The 66th session of the IBE Council was held from 14-15 December, 2016, at IBE-UNESCO’s Geneva headquarters.


H.E. Dr. Hamood bin Khalfan Al-Harthi (The Sultanate of Oman), President of the IBE Council, presided over the session. Dr. Mmantsetsa Marope, Director of IBE-UNESCO, welcomed Council members, as well as observers from the Republic of Azerbaijan. Mr Svein Osttveit, Director ED/EO, Executive Office, UNESCO, was also in attendance.
 
The report on the 2016 activities was approved. The Council applauded the Director and her team for an excellent execution of the 2016 work program.

The Council also approved what is described as an ambitious work program for 2017. During 2017, IBE-UNESCO will heighten its contribution to the implementation and monitoring of SDG4 and the global 2030 education agenda, building on efforts commenced in 2016. The program is guided by and anchored in UNESCO’s mandate, core functions, C/4 and C/5, Main Lines of Action (MLAs), Expected Results (ERs), the Sector Strategy 2014-21 and the IBE Centre of Excellence (CoE) Strategy.
