Wellbeing (in school)

Wellbeing in school contributes to learners’ physical and psychological health and development. As such it is strongly connected to learning. It consists of cognitive, emotional, and physical components, i.e. a learner’s thoughts, feelings, and bodily sensations. Wellbeing in school generally involves: positive attitudes and emotions toward school in general; enjoyment in school; positive academic self-concept; absence of worries about school; absence of physical complaints in school; and absence of social problems in school. Wellbeing contributes to the maintenance of a positive basis for learning at school. On the other hand, learning is crucial for the occurrence of wellbeing because successful learning is an important source of enjoyment in school. Thus, wellbeing and learning in school are interdependent concepts which influence each other.
