The IBE-UNESCO presented “10 exploratory clues on the democratization of secondary education in Latin America” at the second edition of the Regional Forum on Education Policy held in Buenos Aires (20-21 September 2018).

IIEP-UNESCO Buenos Aires in partnership with UNESCO ED/Sector, UNESCO Office in Santiago, UIS and IBE-UNESCO organized the Regional Forum on Education Policy, which took place the 20-21 September 2018 in Buenos Aires. This forum is part of the efforts that UNESCO is undertaking to support the LAC region towards the fulfillment of SDG4.

The topic of this year edition was “Challenges of secondary education in Latin America in light of the 2030 Education Agenda”. During the first day, seven international and regional education experts discussed about the state of secondary education and its policies in Latin America, while, the second day consisted of a series of roundtables on the need to rethink secondary education in the LAC region considering the universal aspiration of youth education for all regardless of contexts and circumstances.

The IBE-UNESCO proposed, during the first day, the presentation “10 exploratory clues on the democratization of secondary education in Latin America”. The intervention started with a reflection on the main achievements of the region in secondary education as well as on the pending challenges. Then, it proposed 10 clues of analysis that will allow for a more in-depth study and understanding of some of these issues. The whole discussion has been supported by concrete examples from secondary education programmes and curriculum frameworks of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Mexico and Peru.
