Inclusive Education in Nordic Countries

This Workshop will focus on analyzing the Nordic case, notably lessons learned and current challenges regarding Inclusive Education. Discussion of this topic will help to explain the advances of the Nordic region in carrying out Inclusive Education, and how these advances can be good references for other regions.

Leveraging E-learning to promote Diversity and Inclusion
Geneva, Switzerland, 11-12 February 2008)
Experts gathered to plan for the implementation of a new joint pilot project: “Diversity and Inclusion in the Community”. The project aims to foster Learning to Live Together (LTLT) and inclusion based on using new technologies (namely GigaPan) in the context of student-friendly curricula and teaching and learning approaches.
GIGAPAN consists of an advanced digital camera and appropriate software allowing for both the capturing of broad panoramas and the exploration of details based on zooming. During the pilot phase teachers and students of four schools (two in the United States, one in Trinidad-Tobago and one in South Africa) will be trained to use the GigaPan device as a tool to carrying out action-research activities in their local communities.

Regional Conference on Inclusive Education-
Europe and North America Region
(Riga, Latvia, 24 – 26 February 2008)
The Regional Preparatory Conference for the 48th session of the International Conference on Education for Europe and the North American Region will address the topic of “Inclusive Education: from Policy Dialogue to Collaborative Action”.
It will focus primarily on policy issues related to inclusive education. Over three days, the Conference will include expert presentations, country presentations, two roundtable discussions with representatives from the Ministries of Education of the European and North American Region on Inclusive Education Policies and Practices and four simultaneous workshops on Inclusive Education: Conceptual and Practical Issues.

The Minister of Education of Ecuador elected President of the IBE Council
His Excellency, Mr. Raúl Vallejo Corral, the Minister of Education of Ecuador was elected President of the Council. The 56th session of the Council was attended by the Ministers of Education of Cameroon, Ecuador, Mali and Latvia; as well as by high level officials from the ministries of education of several countries.

The fifty-sixth session of the IBE Council is taking place in Geneva from 23 to 25 January 2008. The Working Group for the preparation of the forty-eight session of the ICE and Administrative Group of the Council will meet on 21 and 22 January.

International Forum "Poverty alleviation and Living Together in Peace: What Sort of School is Need in Africa Today and Tomorrow?"

Update of the IBE Education Thesaurus 07-01-2008
The Second Revision of the 6th Edition of the Education Thesaurus is now available. Released on the Internet December 2007, this latest, October 2007 revision includes the addition of over 130 new terms, presented in the same format as the 2002 revision.
