Research Projects
Over the years the IBE has been carrying out an extensive work of collection and systematization of information about education systems and curricula worldwide. The resulting databases are rich sources of information that allow for in-depth analyses of educational patterns and trends, in particular those related to curricular contents.
Studies and analyses are carried out for a variety of purposes relevant to UNESCO’s strategy and IBE’s mission, for example:
- To provide contributions to the UNESCO Global Monitoring Report on EFA;
- To support IBE and UNESCO activities in the field;
- To disseminate findings through the journal Prospects and other IBE publications;
- To share interim results of ongoing research through the series Working Papers on Curriculum Issues.
One of the topics being examined in recent years is the issue of instructional time and, to this end, the IBE has been compiling and systematizing data on time devoted to school subjects in countries around the world. The IBE also organizes seminars with the aim to create a forum for sharing research findings and enhancing collaboration in the field of curriculum.
