First national strategy for the evaluation of learning assessments for Chad

SNEAS Tchad

Chad has taken a historic step in the in-depth transformation of its education system by adopting its first national strategy for the evaluation of learning assessments (Stratégie Nationale d'Évaluation des Acquis Scolaires SNEAS), which will ensure the sustainability of studies on the learning achievements of Chadian pupils/learners and will provide a framework for learning assessment activities, determine their frequency, delimit the levels and disciplines to be assessed, and establish a framework for planning and steering this assessment within the system.

The SNEAS also monitored a nationwide assessment of learning outcomes for CE2 and CM2 pupils during May 2023 - the first of its kind in Chad since the first school was founded in 1911.

The strategy was drawn up by the Ministry of Education and Civic Promotion through the National School Achievement Assessment System (DNEAS), with technical support from UNESCO-IBE as part of the Chad Education and Literacy Strengthening Project (PREAT), financed by the Global Partnership for Education (GPE).

The DNEAS (Dispositif national des acquis scolaires) is a system for evaluating and assessing pupils' teaching/learning achievements in the main teaching disciplines, namely languages and mathematics. It uses so-called diagnostic assessment to evaluate the education system regarding what pupils/learners have learned at a given level and in specific subjects.
