Mailoa, Chad - Under the auspices of the "Improving Education in the Sahel Region" project, financed by the European Union and implemented by UNESCO, a crucial workshop is dedicated to finalizing the training framework for junior cycle teachers. At the heart of this project is the desire to finalize the Plan de formation initiale et continue des enseignants du cycle moyen au Tchad, in line with the Common Framework of Curricular Guidelines (Cadre Commun d'Orientation Curriculaire - CCOC). The overall objectives of this approach are to develop the skills and capacities of Chadian teachers to ensure a high-performance education system.

The workshop is taking place in Mailoa, a town nestled 80 km from N'Djamena, the Chadian capital. Scheduled over three days, from 5 to 7 February 2024, this strategic event brought together a total of 30 participants, all committed to shaping the future of education in the region.

UNESCO's International Bureau of Education (UNESCO-IBE), represented by its experts Omar Thiam, Boubacar Tall and Prof. Jean Claude Bationo, is providing first-rate technical support. Working closely with the UNESCO office in N'Djamena, including Palmbert Honoré, the project's national manager, this initiative aims to generate fruitful exchanges and informed decisions to strengthen Chad's education system.

The Director General of the École Normale Supérieure expressed his gratitude to the participants in this workshop, and in particular to UNESCO, whose constant support for Chadian education, and in particular for the Écoles Normales Supérieures, is invaluable. He highlighted the commitment of the supervisors at these training institutions, demonstrating the importance they attach to the continuous improvement of their training programs. The main objective is to ensure optimum harmonization of teaching and learning conditions at junior cycle level in Chad. This workshop illustrates the collective commitment to education in Chad, and marks a decisive step towards improving the quality of education in the Sahel region. At a forthcoming validation workshop, the participants who have worked so hard to finalize the training repository will work with UNESCO-IBE experts to provide feedback, laying the foundations for more effective and inclusive education for future generations.
