University Partners, representatives of UNESCO Chairs on curriculum and related themes, UNESCO representatives from field offices, and international curriculum experts concluded the second UNESCO-IBE University Partner’s Meeting with a commitment to strengthening cooperation and striving for excellence in regional Master’s/Postgraduate Diplomas in Curriculum to enhance the capacity of Member States to lead and implement curriculum transformation processes effectively.

The aim of the UNESCO-IBE annual Master’s Partner Meetings is to serve as a platform for peer learning, exchanging experiences and lessons learned, and reviewing program outcomes. This year’s Partners Meeting built upon the 2022 Meeting’s expertise and allowed partner institutions to share updates on the Regional Master’s objectives, content, implementation, outcomes, impact, and challenges.

Over three days, participants discussed critical dimensions of the Regional Master’s course design and delivery, including hybrid training modes, instructional support, validation of learning processes and outcomes, and the application of learning in professional settings. Further, they shared possible approaches to addressing global issues, such as competency-based curriculum, digital learning, inclusive education, and sustainable development. The participation of selected UNESCO Chairs enriched the discussion with proposals for joint research projects.

Since 2011, the IBE has been partnering with four universities – the Open University of Tanzania (OUT) for Africa; Hamdan Bin Mohammed Smart University (HBMSU, UAE) for the Arab region; Vytautas Magnus University (VMU, Lithuania) for East Europe-Central Asia; and Catholic University of Uruguay (UCU) for Latin America and the Caribbean – to offer accredited Master’s and/or Postgraduate Diploma courses in Curriculum, which have trained approximately 400 curriculum practitioners from 80 countries. Since 2021, the IBE has been supporting the establishment of a new Master’s in Curriculum at University Cheikh Anta Diop (UCAD, Senegal) for West Africa, at University Denis Sassou Nguesso (UDSN, Congo Brazzaville) for Central Africa, and Eduardo Mondlane University (EMU, Mozambique) for Lusophone African countries.
